Automated nut projection welding workstation delivers one M10 welded part every 6.5 seconds with 99.99% finished product rate. MFDC power source protects nut threads, no re-tapping needed. Vibratory feeding, robot handling, weld inspection and MES integration in one fenced cell. One operator supervises 2-3 stations. Custom fixtures and tooling per part drawings.
Automatic Nut Projection Welding Workstation: M10 Weld Nuts Joined Every 6.5 Seconds
Application story · Automated nut welding for automotive parts and sheet metal components
Vibratory bowl feeding, robot pick-and-place, projection welding, air-blow cleaning and weld inspection run in one fenced cell - with a finished product rate of 99.99% and one operator watching 2 to 3 workstations.
The complete workstation: safety fence, nut feeding, robot handling and welding in one cell
Nut Feeding Runs By Itself
The shift starts with a full vibratory bowl feeder. Weld nuts are oriented and conveyed automatically, so the station keeps welding for at least an hour before the next refill - no operator placing nuts on the electrode by hand.
A handling robot picks up the stamped workpiece and moves it to the welding position. Positioning repeats to the same point every cycle, so nut placement stays consistent from the first part to the last.
One Welded Part Every 6.5 Seconds
Inside the cell, the medium-frequency DC power source joins the M10 projection weld nut to the part. The discharge time is short and the current rise is fast, which keeps the weld nugget at about 0.2 mm depth: the sheet is fused, but the nut thread is left undamaged - no deformation, no burn-through, and no re-tapping after welding.
The station completes one welded part approximately every 6.5 seconds. With automatic unloading after welding, the finished parts leave the cell without anyone stepping inside.

Quality Is Built Into the Cycle
Every weld is counted. If a nut is missing or welded in the wrong position, the equipment alarms automatically and the defective part is stopped before the next process.
After each weld, a blow-clean function on the electrodes and fixtures removes welding debris from the nut thread, and the weld inspection function checks the result in the same cycle. A PLC control system with network bus control and fault diagnosis keeps the whole process traceable, and the station can be connected to the MES system.

The result: a finished product rate of 99.99% or above, with stable quality that does not depend on operator skill. One operator refills nuts about once per hour and can supervise 2 to 3 workstations at the same time.
On The Production Floor
The cell is fenced on every working side, with the feeding stations reachable from outside the fence and the control panel and air preparation unit mounted outside - the operator never has to open the gate during a running shift.
Because the feeder, the weld power source and the inspection system sit in one frame, the workstation can be dropped into an existing line without rebuilding the process around it.
